Fate/stay Night [Realta Nua]

fatele_top.jpg

Came across this whilst rummaging through the play-asia PS2 catalogue. Made a bargain on ebay and received it about two weeks ago. So i had no real intention like “OMGMUSTHAVEWTFBBQ”. And maybe that’s what keeps me from getting angrier by the day about this game.Well, i guess i shouldn’t be getting angrier since i was just misguided by thinking this could be a cool action adventure…but that’s what happens if you don’t read descriptions like the one on the play-asia site. It’s actually a text adventure for Playstation2 withfoll voice support of the original voice actors from the anime. Realta Nua is the sequel to the long available ataraxxia.

Why do my hopes always get crushed when i buy a game that’s anime-, or in this case eroge-visual-novel themed. I was hoping for some action by running around in a beautiful 3D environment, becoming a proper Master and joining the Holy Grail Wars by thursting Saber or any other Servants into battle. But, no… i get another graphic novel. Serves me right.

But don’t get me wrong. The game has beautiful visuals and the voice acting is another bonus for fans of the previous game. Just not my cup of tea i guess. Since i haven’t had the time to powerlevel my japanese yet and am still waiting for my results of last years Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 4, i’m not too content with what’s going on in the game.

I said another graphic novel. Yes that’s right, i bought the special edition as you ca see from the pictures, which came with a gashapon of Saber and a PlayStation Portable Fate/stay Night game which i think happens to be another graphic/text. I dind’t get really far into it since i lost interest after about 15 minutes of clicking me through in the hope that something action-y happens…I guess a more detailed review will follow later this year after i gained more japanese vocabulary/kanji.

And here i resent to you the Saber gashapon figure that came with my copy of the game:

I believe if one did their research, they would find that it’s been stated well before the game was released that Realta Nua would be a tuned version of the original visual novel PC game. In essence, it is. Voice acting was added, the ero scenes changed and some additional story is added as well. No action except what is presented in the the graphic style of the game.

Realta Nua is not, in fact, a sequel to Hollow Ataraxia. Simply an edited remake of the PC game for PS2. There is currently no game that is out (by Type-Moon) that isn’t a visual novel. Being heavily story based, there’s going to be a lot text. If one cannot understand enough Japanese, of course, this will be a problem.

You said it yourself that you didn’t check Play-Asia’s info, nor did any research before purchasing the game. Live and learn.

I have to say I am a bit miffed at your situation. You see, I actually was anticipating this game and pre-ordered it (from Play-Asia, oddly enough) and paid for the special edition. Even though I ordered way ahead of time, I was denied the extra Saber gashapon (but got the PSP game, which is a fun traditional puzzle game). So consider yourself lucky that you got a hold of the Limited Edition. =p

As a Fate fan, I’d say just enjoy the game. Maybe it’ll help your Japanese skills.

First of all, thanks for the comment. Postive or negative feedback is always welcome.
As you pointed out, i didn’t do my research thoroughly on this game, maybe because, as i said, wasn’t looking forward to buy it like you did. One can say it was a “one shot” thing. Although i played some eroge’s, i’m not too much into this stuff, meaning i don’t see myself sitting in front of a graphic novel over a long time.
I’m, definately going to check this game more intensely when i’m up to the task with more japanese vocabulary backing me up. (I just got my certificate for the JLPT lvl 4 test^^).

But this is indeed strange. When i was browsing ebay the auction i won was the only one that depicted the gashapon as an extra item. I thought it was included, maybe the seller only included it as a bonus himself. Will be putting up some pictures today including a slip of paper that came with said saber gashapon, depicting others from the series.
